Question: Is SFIAB really free for anyone to use?

Answer: Yes it is! SFIAB is licenced under the GNU GPL which allows anyone to download, use and modify SFIAB to suit their needs.

Question: Numbering Projects: We have always just numbered our projects consecutively from 1 to n, not by category or division. We purposely want to have the students in the display area mixed up and not grouped by age or project division. Is it possible in the program to just have the projects numbered sequentially regardless of category or division?

Answer: Yes, under SFIAB Configuration >> Configuration Variables >> General. Set the "Project Number Format" to be simply "N"

Question: Award Sponsors: We have many awards that have more than one sponsor but in the award set up portion it appears that you can only assign one sponsor per award. Is there a way to assign more than one?

Answer: Presently no, however there is an open feature request in the bug tracking system http://www.sfiab.ca/bugtracker/view.php?id=44 which requests this. The notes in the bugtracking system also provide a workaround.

Question: Format of Value for Awards: When entering the value of an award the program does not use commas correctly. It accepts them, without any form of error message but any value after the comma is ignored. E.g., I entered $1,500 as an award value but only $1 appeared in the field afterward. I had to enter $1500 to have the whole amount show. Is this done for a reason? Can it be fixed?

Answer: All numerical number entry is expected to contain only digits 0-9. Do not enter commas, or dollar signs.

Question: General Prize Template: What is this for, and how can I use it to make all 30 sets of gold/silver/bronze/honourable mention for each of my divisions/categories

Answer: Under the Awards link "Edit prizes for the generic prize template", create your gold, silver, bronze, honourable mentions with whatever specifications you want. Once complete, return to the main Awards page, and click on "Create divisional awards for all divisions and categories". This will go through all your divisions and categories, and apply the generic prize template to each one, saving you from manually creating 30 sets of awards/prizes.

Question: Number of Awards Available

The top projects in the fair that get selected to go to Canada-Wide receive what we call the Award of Merit. I have created this award and indicated 9 in the Number Available field. However, back on the awards list the number of prizes is listed as just 1. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Answer: Each Award can have multiple PRIZES, and each PRIZE can have multiple "# Available". Eg) Award "Award of Merit" has one singple prize called "CWSF Trip" with 9 Available. Eg) Award "Life Science- Junior" has 4 prizes "gold", "silver", "bronze" and "honourable mention", and each of those 4 prizes can have multiple # availables. (eg, 5HM, 3 Bronze, 2 Silver, 1 Gold).

Question: Report Formats: What does CSV stand for?

Answer: CSV stands for Comma Separate Values. CSV files can easily be imported into spreadhseet programs such as Open Office Calc, Microsoft Excel, KSpread, etc. For more information see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comma-separated_values
